Well, I’m a few days late, but here are players 1-10 of my top-30 players that I like the best in this years draft. And as a side note, this isn’t who I think will be the first 30 players selected, but more who I think the best 30 NHL players will be when it’s all said and done.
Enjoy
1- Connor McDavid, C, Erie
No surprise here, I don’t think much explaining is needed as to why he is No. 1 on the list.
2- Jack Eichel, C, Boston University
Everyone’s No. 2 player is mine as well, but I will say this; the gap between him and McDavid is not that big. He will have seasons where he out plays McDavid and will likely finish higher in Calder voting next season.
3- Mitchell Marner, C, London
He’s an excellent skater, with the dynamic skill to break games wide open. I think he’ll be a top-notch NHL scorer. Size concerns some, but not me.
4- Zachary Werenski, D, Michigan
He’s might not be as flashy as a couple of the other high-end guys, but he seems to be the coolest under pressure. Nothing rattles him and I think that is going to make him a steady top-pairing guy for a long time.
5- Dylan Strome, C, Erie
He really does have everything you look for in a top line centre – size, skill, smarts and skating. He’ll be a very good NHL player.
6- Noah Hanifin, D, Boston College
I’m not sure there is a better puck mover in the draft. He’s so smart and skilled at getting to puck where it needs to go and I see a lot of TJ Brodie in his game.
7- Jansen Harkins, C, Prince George
I don’t think he gets enough credit for what he did in Prince George this season. He’s a centre, with NHL size, an elite two-way game and maybe the best intangibles of this year’s draft class.
8- Timo Meier, RW, Halifax
I think he’s the best power-forward in the draft and he’s able to player just about any type of game an NHL team wants him to play. He’ll be a solid top-6 guy in the NHL.
9- Lawson Crouse, LW, Kingston
He’s kind of my 1A behind Meier as the best power-forward in the draft. He hits, he score and he fights. The only reason I have him behind Meier is because I think Meier is a better skater.
10- Kyle Connor, LW, Youngstown
He’s a dynamic skater that plays a sound two-way game. He’s scored at every level he’s played at and I think he’ll be a solid NHLer.
